the mobile museum: a london estates project on kickstarter

Mobile Museum

The London Borough of Barking & Dagenham is lucky. It’s getting a new museum. And this isn’t just any old museum, it’s a mobile museum – the brainchild of artist Verity-Jane Keefe.

The project, which is currently raising funds on Kickstarter, has been in development for more than three years. Once its funded it will travel around 11 estates in the borough stopping along the way to offer workshops and events with experts as diverse as scientists,¬†archaeologists, archivists, writers, architects, artists and many more. At the same time Verity will document activities throughout the estates, depositing them in the museum’s collection.

The museum, which is actually a Ford Iveco Library van, will start at the Becontree estate (hopefully in October), working its way around the borough in five months – a journey that will be documented in a specially commissioned film.

I could go on – but really you need to check out the Kickstarter page, read all about it and most importantly DONATE!
